Elgin man sentenced for sexually assaulting a child

An Elgin man was sentenced to 18 years in prison Friday for sexually assaulting a child.

Paul L. Martin, 39, of the 500 block of Tollgate Road, pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal sexual assault.

According to prosecutors, on Nov. 29, 2014, Martin sexually assaulted the victim, who was younger than 12.

Martin must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence. He was given credit for 507 days in the Kane County jail, where he had been held since his arrest in lieu of $500,000 bail.

In addition, Martin must register for life as a sex offender.
