Women's group hosting College of DuPage update in Elmhurst
Jan Dorner doesn't know all the details about what's been going on at the College of DuPage.
She does know, however, that a lot of the news coming out of the Glen Ellyn school in recent months has been negative.
"I don't feel that I'm getting enough information, so I would assume that probably would be the same for a lot of people," she said. "We're all paying taxes to District 502 and it's meaningful that we understand how they're being used."
Members of the League of Women Voters of Elmhurst, including Dorner, who serves as the group's vice president for programming, have organized a College of Dupage Update for 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at the Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect Ave. The college's Acting Interim President Joseph Collins will speak at the event and answer questions.
"It would be appropriate for the members of the public to come out and learn more about what's going on now," Dorner said. "Although we would be interested in any new programs the college is having, what we're mostly interested in is what is happening with the board and the fact the college has been put on probation (by the Higher Learning Commission)."
League members say they will ask Collins to comment on the fate of the students, the use of tax dollars, the school's reputation and how residents can help move politics out of board discussions and stay focused on the future.
"It's definitely an area of concern in the community," Dorner said. "I think we will get a good turnout."
