School bus, truck collision leaves 7 students injured

BEACH PARK, Ill. (AP) - Nine students were injured in a collision between a school bus and a semi-truck in suburban Chicago.

Beach Park Elementary School District officials say the bus from Kenneth Murphy Elementary School was involved in the Wednesday afternoon crash. Authorities say the nine of the 56 students aboard the bus suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Lake County sheriff's spokesman Chris Covelli says the bus was stopped because of traffic ahead when it was rear-ended by a truck, pushing it into a semi-truck in front.

Covelli says driver Milos Ostojic of Gurnee was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, no proof of insurance and not having a license on his person.

Officials say the majority of the students aboard the bus were returned to the school, where parents picked them up.
