Symetra Tour cancels Florida event because of Matthew

LONGWOOD, Fla. (AP) - The Symetra Tour canceled the IOA Golf Classic on Thursday because of Hurricane Matthew, leaving players with just one event left in the money race for LPGA Tour cards.

The Orlando-area tournament was scheduled to begin Friday and end Sunday.

"We consulted with our weather experts on Wednesday night and early Thursday morning and it became clear that the best decision for the IOA Golf Classic and the safety of our players, staff members and volunteers is to cancel the tournament," Symetra Tour chief business officer Mike Nichols said. "It's unfortunate because IOA has been such a great partner and this is crunch time in the season, but safety is our number one priority over all else."

The season-ending Symetra Tour Championship is next week at LPGA International in Daytona Beach. The final top on the money list will earn LPGA Tour cards.
