Elk Grove Rotary Fest ready to kick off summer festival season

Summer festival season is back in the suburbs, with the launch Wednesday of one of the traditionally earliest events of the season - Elk Grove Rotary Fest.

The fest opens at 6 p.m. Wednesday, with a carnival at the Rotary Green, 164 Lions Drive, near Elk Grove High School. The hours are 6 to 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, when musical performances by he Rob Post Band and Wedding Banned are added to the mix.

Festivities run from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, with performances by Exit 147 and 7th heaven. Saturday's hours are 2 p.m. to midnight, with performances by Sofa Kings, Heart to HeartBreaker and the Lounge Puppets, and what promises to be a huge fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.

The event wraps up Sunday, with the festival grounds open from 2 to 9 p.m.

All throughout, visitors can get food from the several vendors taking part in a Taste of Elk Grove, or quench their thirst at the Beer Court.

The festival is a fundraiser for the Elk Grove Rotary Club, with proceeds helping local charities such as food pantries, and homeless and literacy programs, as well as international efforts including clean water projects.

About two dozen food booths are set up and ready to go for opening night of Elk Grove Rotary Fest. The five-day festival opens with a carnival Wednesday night and runs through the weekend with live music and a fireworks show Saturday night. John Starks/jstarks@dailyherald.com
