County OKs self-storage project on former motel site near Carol Stream

DuPage County Board members have approved plans for a self-storage development on the site of a shuttered motel near Carol Stream.

Board members granted a request for zoning relief for the project. The family that owns the North Avenue property plans to tear down the old Coachlight Motel to make way for the self-storage facility.

A national chain - Extra Space Storage - will operate the buildings at North Avenue and Ethel Street, just east of County Farm Road.

The main self-storage building would be three stories tall and 71,550 square feet. It will contain about 600 climate-controlled units inside the building. In addition, a one-story, drive-through building will sit to the north of the larger facility.
