Man United hire ex-England captain as women's team manager
MANCHESTER, England (AP) - Manchester United hired former England captain Casey Stoney as coach of the club's new women's team on Friday.
The 36-year-old Stoney retired from playing only this year, having earned 130 international caps and 12 major trophies.
Her appointment came 11 days after United officially ended a 13-year absence from the senior women's game and received a licence to join the second-tier England Women's Championship next season.
After announcing her retirement in February, Stoney became assistant manager to England Women's boss Phil Neville. The former Liverpool defender will step down from her role with the national side.
