Aurora cops probing string of vehicle break-ins
Burglars have hit at least 11 vehicles in recent days on Aurora's west side, police said Friday.
Police said the most recent cases came between 5:30 p.m. May 31 and 7:30 a.m. June 1 on the 1200 blocks of Morton Avenue and Coventry Place and on the 1100 block of Nantucket Road.
Five vehicles were hit in that 14-hour period, four of which were parked in apartment complex parking lots on Coventry and Nantucket. Contents of all the vehicles were scattered about their interiors and the burglars escaped with car stereo face plates, cellphones, and a set of work keys.
Six vehicles were burglarized in similar fashion between 9:30 p.m. May 28 and 12:15 p.m. May 29 on the 2000 block of Bradford Lane and 2100 block of Sandburg Drive. Three of those vehicles were parked on the street and three in driveways.
Items taken in those burglaries included electronics and loose change.
A surveillance camera system captured one of the burglaries on Bradford Lane being committed by a man who is about 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs between 120 and 160 pounds. After burglarizing a vehicle, he appears to meet with two other men across the street. There is no further descriptions of the suspects.
Police estimated the total loss in all the burglaries was around $1,300.
Several of the vehicles were locked at the time of the break-ins, police said, leading investigators to believe the burglars may be armed with tools to gain entry.
