Lake County open burning ban extended
A temporary ban on open burning of landscape waste in unincorporated Lake County has been extended to Oct. 12. The ban was enacted in May 2020 due to the risk of negative health impacts from open burning on individuals infected with COVID-19 and extended through 2020. It was reinstated with certain exemptions on March 9 and was set to expire Wednesday. The Lake Conty Board on Tuesday agreed to extend burning restrictions while options and alternatives to landscape disposal are considered. The ban permits open burning of specified waste at specified times on limited days at least 500 feet from the nearest habitable structure. Visit lakecountyil.gov.
