Explore educational systems in Finland and Sweden this spring with College of DuPage

Learn more about the innovative Finnish education system as part of "Finland and Sweden: Exploring a Progressive Education System," a new course offered this spring through the College of DuPage Field and Experiential Learning/Study Abroad program.

The three-credit hour course is offered May 18-25, 2019 and includes classroom sessions at the college from 6 to 7:50 p.m. April 15, May 16, and June 3, 10 and 17.

During "Finland and Sweden: Exploring a Progressive Education System," students will meet with Finnish education professionals to learn about innovative Finnish education practices, including how they maintain an excellent quality of education without homework or standardized tests. In addition, students will discover how the Finnish Board of Education can afford a tuition-free education for its students.

"The opportunity to provide students with a comparative educational experience with a progressive system outside the United States is important," said Maren McKellin, manager of Field and Experiential Learning/Study Abroad. "An experience like this on a transcript can distinguish students from others who are applying for a job in education. Experience and exposure to other cultures and systems provide wider perspectives and richer context."

The program cost of $3,967 includes air/ground transportation, hotels, entrance fees and most meals. Tuition is extra.
