Naperville residents displaced after fire caused by lightning

Two people were displaced from their Naperville home Wednesday after a bolt of lightning started a fire in an attic, officials say.

A lightning strike with no visible flames was originally reported at 7:06 p.m. on the 3300 block of Rosecroft Lane, according to a news release from the Naperville Fire Department. A subsequent call, however, reported smoke coming from the roof of the same home. Residents evacuated the two-story, six-unit building, and none were injured. Firefighters arrived within three minutes of the 911 call and put out the blaze within 20 minutes, officials said.

The attic and roof suffered the most damage. A damage estimate was not immediately available, Naperville Fire Deputy Chief Andrew Dina said.

Residents of the other five units were allowed to return to their homes Wednesday evening. Red Cross was not called, Dina said.

The official cause of the fire was determined to be storm-related.
