Buffalo Grove police raise $40,487 for Special Olympics

The Buffalo Grove Police Department raised $40,487 for Special Olympics Illinois during 2016, exceeding the $31,960 raised in 2015, officials said.

Members of the department's Special Olympics Committee, along with other department volunteers, participated in several events in the year long fundraising campaign, including Dunkin' Donuts Cop on Top and, along with the Hoffman Estates Police Department, the Special Olympics "Largest Truck Convoy."

The department also held its first Trivia Night, emceed by Chief Steven Casstevens and hosted by The Continental Restaurant, to raise nearly $8,000. Other events and fundraising efforts included the Law Enforcement Torch Run, Special Olympics Plane Pull, Butterburgers and Badges at Culver's, and the Buffalo Grove Farmer's Market.

The department offered a special thanks to resident Special Olympics athlete Steve Katz, along with his family, for their untiring assistance at these events.
