Garage fire spreads to home in Des Plaines

A fire in an attached garage spread to a residence Friday morning in Des Plaines, leaving the building uninhabitable, authorities said.
The only person home at the time of the fire, which occurred about 10:30 a.m. on the 800 block of Beau Drive, made it out safely and without any injuries, according to Fire Chief Alan Wax.
The fire started in the right-side garage of the two-story duplex and spread into the upstairs residence, leaving it with significant damages, Wax said.
Firefighters remained on scene Friday afternoon to continue to check for hot spots.
A cause of the fire was not immediately known, but remained under investigation.
