Charges filed in shots fired incident in Naperville
Charges have been filed in connection with an incident of shots fired in February in Naperville.
Derrick L. Smith, 32, of the 1800 block of Mulberry Drive in Montgomery, was charged Thursday by the DuPage County state's attorney's office with aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon on parole. Smith, who is in custody in Kane County, also was charged with being an armed habitual criminal.
At about 4 a.m. on Feb. 6, Naperville police officers responded to the 1800 block of W. Diehl Road for a report of shots fired. There were no injuries reported and no one was on the scene when officers arrived.
Officers used local surveillance video to identify those allegedly involved.
