Syracuse S Andre Cisco ACC's defensive rookie of the year

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Syracuse safety Andre Cisco is the ACC defensive rookie of the year.

Cisco received 40 votes in the balloting announced Tuesday to easily win the award over runner-up Xavier Thomas of Clemson.

Cisco had seven interceptions in the regular season to tie for the national lead and also had nine pass breakups. His 16 total passes defended ranked second nationally among freshmen in the Bowl Subdivision and is a school record for a first-year player.

Cisco also had 51 tackles (41 solo) to rank fifth on the team and forced one fumble.

Voting was conducted by a panel of 46 media members and the conference's 14 head coaches.
