Hanover Park breaking ground for cricket fields

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6, for the new MAQ Cricket Fields at 1300 Walnut Ave. in Hanover Park.

Three cricket fields and one soccer field are planned to be added to the existing Hanover Park Sports Complex, owned and operated by the village of Hanover Park.

The MAQ Cricket Fields are named after Mahammad Afzal Qureshi, who was instrumental in supporting the project. He's led several similar initiatives in his home state of Florida, as well as Georgia, Texas and New Jersey. Mayor Rodney Craig and Qureshi have had a shared vision of expanding the presence of cricket in the region.

"I am truly excited for this project," Craig said. "Bringing this level of cricket to our community continues to highlight Hanover Park as America's Global Village."
