NE Indiana man pleads guilty to trying to kill officers

GARRETT, Ind. (AP) - A northeastern Indiana man has pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder stemming from an exchange of gunfire with two officers.

Forty-two-year-old Joshua D. Mumma of Garrett also pleaded guilty to being a habitual offender under a plea agreement Wednesday in which prosecutors will dismiss an enhancement for use of a firearm against a police officer and charges of dealing in methamphetamine and disarming a law enforcement officer.

The (Auburn) Star reports DeKalb Superior Court Judge Kevin Wallace advised Mumma he could face a sentencing range of 46-100 years.

Prosecutors have said DeKalb sheriff's Deputy Todd McCormick was shot in his hands during the April 10, 2018, shooting following a traffic stop . Garrett Officer Alicia Castro also participated in the stop. Mumma was shot and hospitalized for several weeks .
