St. Charles Youth Police Academy is back June 12-16
The St. Charles Police Department will host its fifth annual Youth Police Academy this summer. The class will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 12-16.
It is open to students ages 13-16.
The academy showcases careers in police work, encourages team work and grows self-esteem through different activities.
Several topics will be covered, including steps to becoming a police officer, personal safety, internet safety, bullying, crime scene evidence collection and more.
Tours of the police and fire departments are part of the program.
Thanks to funding from the St. Charles Youth Commission, participants will be certified in CPR by the St. Charles Fire Department free.
The class also will spend a day at the Kane County Judicial Center for classes led by state's attorneys and judges.
Class size is limited to the first 25 registrants who must be St. Charles residents, and/or attend a St. Charles Unit District 303 school.
Preference will be given to residents within the city limits.

The registration deadline is Friday, June 2.
