Teen accused of killing Endia Martin to receive jury trial
CHICAGO (AP) - A Cook County Juvenile Court judge says a Chicago teen charged with fatally shooting a 14-year-old girl in a Facebook feud over a boy will receive a jury trial.
Judge Stuart Katz on Tuesday denied a prosecution motion against a jury trial for the now-16-year-old girl charged with murder in the April 2014 death of Endia Martin. Assistant State's Attorney Athena Farmakis argued that under the Juvenile Court Act, the defendant isn't eligible for a jury trial because she doesn't have a history of being in trouble with the law.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports (http://bit.ly/1WakUtR ) the girl's trial is scheduled for May 16.
The defendant is accused of killing14-year-old Endia and wounding the victim's best friend after a Facebook feud over a boy.
