Last Fling to open with free tribute band concerts
Admission will be free when Naperville's Last Fling festival opens its end-of-summer celebration Sept. 2 at Rotary Hill in the city's downtown.
The opening night festivities at the four-day Labor Day weekend event sponsored by the Naperville Jaycees will include performances by a pair of tribute bands.
Sept. 2 is sure to be a busy Friday with high school football games and travel plans, Jaycees member Danielle Tufano said, so the evening seemed like the perfect time to offer free concert admission to anyone who can make it.
“We decided we would make the Last Fling the perfect destination for people who are out and about doing different things to stop by and enjoy some music on the main stage,” Tufano said.
One of These Nights, an Eagles tribute band, will perform at 6:30 p.m. before Foreigners Journey, an '80s tribute band covering Foreigner and Journey, plays the headlining spot at 8:30 p.m.
Foreigners Journey brings together the sounds of two major arena bands from the '80s, playing rock ballads such as “Waiting For A Girl Like You,” “I Want to Know What Love Is,” “Faithfully,” “Open Arms,” “Cold As Ice,” “Urgent,” “Hot Blooded,” “Don't Stop Believin',” “Separate Ways” and “Any Way You Want It” in their original key and pitch.
One of These Nights performs Eagles hits like “Take It Easy” and “Hotel California,” along with the solo works of Don Henley, Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh.
While general admission is free, Carillon Experience VIP tickets for $100 each offer a catered multicourse meal, free beverages, snacks, access to the front of the stage during the shows and a potential meet and greet with the bands. Carillon Experience tickets are for sale at LastFling.org.
The free music Friday launches the 51st annual Last Fling, which also will include a show with Toad the Wet Sprocket, Rusted Root and a headliner to be announced beginning at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3.
