Prospect HS musician organizes benefit concert for March of Dimes

Every year, Prospect High School's Guitar Club raises money through music for various charities. This November, led by senior Jason Minor, the club will hold a benefit concert for the March of Dimes organization.

Minor, a 17-year-old musician who is also involved in the school's orchestra and marching band, said he has seen firsthand how money raised for the organization makes an impact. March of Dimes works to improve the health of mothers and babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

Two of his cousins were both two months premature, he said, and money raised through March of Dimes greatly benefited their recovery. Minor brought the idea of holding a benefit concert for the organization to the Guitar Club, and members started planning the event in late August.

The event is open to the community and will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, in the Prospect field house. Along with live music, the evening will also include games, food and a silent auction.

While there is no cost for admission, donations will be accepted.

The concert marks the first time the school's guitar club will raise money for March of Dimes. In years past, the club has hosted fundraising events for area charities such as Knots of Love, Lemons of Love and Casey's Safe Haven.
