Round Lake Beach crash victim identified

Lake County authorities on Wednesday identified Francisco Suarez Lopez, 67, as the man killed Monday night when hit by a car while walking a bicycle across Route 83 near Monaville Road in Round Lake Beach.

Authorities say Lopez, a Round Lake Beach resident, was carrying groceries across the road shortly before 7 p.m. Monday when a southbound 2008 Ford Taurus driven by a 26-year-old Lindenhurst woman struck him. He died as a result of multiple traumatic injuries caused by blunt force trauma, according to the Lake County Coroner's Office.

The investigation into his death is ongoing by our office and the Round Lake Beach Police Department. Toxicology is pending," Coroner Howard Cooper said.

"Mr. Suarez Lopez's family has been notified and our deepest condolences go out to them. This is truly an awful tragedy," Cooper added.
