Ribfest, fireworks highlight Lake Villa Celebration of Summer

Ribs, rock and fireworks soaring overhead teamed for a day of family fun Saturday at Lake Villa's Celebration of Summer.

Families filled Lehman Park for the free annual festival, which also serves as a fundraiser and donation drive for the Lake Villa Township Food Pantry.

Among the most popular events was Ribfest, featuring competitions for both making and eating barbecued ribs.

There also was a car show and the village's Art in the Park, which featured artists from across the area displaying and selling their work in a variety of media.

Tribute band the Blooze Brothers was on tap to perform as day turned to night, leading up the fireworks show at dusk.
