Letter: Drug-injection sites will be dangerous waste
State leadership is poised to put Illinois "at the forefront" yet again with its consideration of state-licensed drug injection sites (aka shooting galleries).
Rather than support border controls that might slow the flow of illegal drugs into this country or expand efforts to rehabilitate addicts, the idea is to "create safe places for using illegal opioids like heroin and fentanyl."
No amount of legislated record-keeping will reduce this opportunity to lead people into bad behavior. It will be another colossal waste of taxpayer money.
If this idea becomes law, add it to the long list of other Illinois firsts; Amendment 1's enshrinement of public sector union benefits, taxpayer funded abortions and mobile abortion services up to the moment of birth, legalized gambling, legalized marijuana, and the get-out-of-jail free SAFE-T act. I'm sure there are more examples, but these come quickly to mind.
At least the legislature woke up on the last day of the session to plug holes in the SAFE-T act; but didn't they read the bill before originally signing it into law? As Illinois continues to sink into this sea of depravity, I can only wonder what boneheaded ideas they will come up with next.
