Man wounded after exchanging gunfire with police officer
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A 31-year-old man has been wounded while exchanging gunfire with an Indianapolis police officer following an early morning traffic stop.
The man ran from a stopped vehicle about 2 a.m. Saturday and was chased by the officer, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said in a release.
He was shot at least once and later treated at a hospital.
A gun was recovered, according to police who said the man had been named in a previous warrant for possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, residential entry and resisting law enforcement.
The officer was not hurt and has been placed on administrative leave as part of police department policy. His body camera had been activated during the chase and shooting.
