Plans ready for World War memorial in northwestern Indiana
CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) - City leaders in Crown Point in northwestern Indiana have received plans from organizers of a Lake County World Wars Veterans Memorial.
The Post-Tribune reports (http://trib.in/1QfJRBO ) that the memorial would be on parkland that's on a 99-year lease between the city and the Veterans Memorial Parkway Commission. The state Legislature created the commission in 1995 as a county entity to oversee a parkway that goes from U.S. 41 to U.S. 231 in Hebron. Mitch Barloga is its president.
The memorial would honor about 1,200 soldiers from Lake County that died in World War I and World War II. The parkway already is home to memorials for Vietnam and Korea veterans.
The Lake County Council has provided $100,000 in seed money. Barloga says plans for amphitheater would be provided by March.
