Why the panic over mailed-in ballots?

The most recent panic topic is the post office will not be able to deliver all the mail-in ballots on time unless they get additional funding quickly. I guess it must be Santa Claus who helps deliver all those Christmas cards we mail out every year, hundreds per household, all at the same time, AND they seem to all get there on time.
