Softball: Mundelein falls twice at Barrington
Mundelein's softball team got off to a terrific start in the Barrington quad Saturday but couldn't sustain the momentum and lost a pair of games to Mid-Suburban League powers to remain winless on the season.
The Mustangs started the day with a 10-3 loss to Elk Grove at the Fields of Dreams, despite jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Jordyn West led off the game with a homer, and three batters later Peyton Pribyl hit a 2-run shot. But Elk Grove responded with 5 runs in the second to take the lead for good.
Mundelein then lost to undefeated Barrington 15-4 in five innings to fall to 0-6. The Mustangs were coming off an 0-3 showing downstate.
"I thought we took a step in the right direction (Saturday), despite the outcome," Mundelein coach Brett Wilhelm said.
Freshman Kendall Klatt had a 2-run double against Barrington, and Breanna Adams also doubled.
"We hit the ball better off better pitching (from Elk Grove and Barrington)," Wilhelm said. "Which was good to see."
Mundelein begins North Suburban Conference action Monday with a home game against Zion-Benton.
Barrington (6-0) also recorded a five-inning win over Huntley, 11-1, as Catherine McMahon (4-0) threw a complete game.
