What tax break for middle class?

Since retirement I have had a fixed income. I have had about the same income over the past 20 years. Each year for the past 20 years I have had a refund from the amount I put in. For the 2018 year I had to pay extra tax from what I put in on both federal and state taxes and I was charged a penalty. What happened to the tax break Trump said the middle class was going to get. I know in 2020 I will not Vote for the liar that is in Office now. He really screwed the middle class. At least I always thought I was middle class.
