Possible burglary suspects arrested in Batavia

A person police say may have committed a burglary faces felony charges in Batavia.

Police said they had stopped a suspicious vehicle on the 600 block of Kramer Court in Batavia Monday morning when officers noticed it matched the description of a vehicle that had possibly been involved in recent burglaries. While officers were investigating, another officer spotted a person walking nearby on the 400 block of Cleveland Avenue, Batavia police said.

The person began running away when they noticed the officer but was quickly apprehended, police said.

Batavia Police Chief Dan Eul told the city council felony charges have been authorized against one of the people, including a class X felony because the person had an "edged weapon."

Police weren't immediately able to say what specific crimes the people were charged with.

Police said it's possible both the people in the car and the person who fled police committed a burglary near where they were apprehended. Police also said they believe the suspects were driving around looking for open first-floor windows covered only with screens and asked anyone with information to call police at (630) 454-2500.
