Airports in Chicago, Rockford receive $36M in federal grants
CHICAGO (AP) - Airports in Chicago and Rockford are receiving a combined $36.5 million in federal grants to make improvements and address concerns about noise.
U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin and Mark Kirk, U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced the grants on Tuesday.
Midway International Airport in Chicago is receiving $17.5 million for sound insulation on residences near the airport. O'Hare International Airport is receiving about $13 million. That includes money for repairs to a runway and for an environmental impact study.
Rockford International Airport is receiving about $6 million to fund part of a 30,000-square-foot terminal expansion, allowing the airport to meet increased passenger demand.
