Boys soccer: Barrington downs Marmion to win tourney crown
Three goals in the second half by Barrington (4-2-0) gave the Broncos the championship trophy at their own Barrington Classic Saturday night with a 3-0 victory over Marmion Academy.
Michael Horak's goal in the 46th minute broke a resilient Cadets (2-2-0) defense which until this game had not allowed a goal during three previous games in group play.
Nate Horn doubled the Broncos' advantage at 60 minutes, before Brian Yang added the third in the 75th minute.
"We had kind of a tough start to our season with a loss to Glenbrook South, then a 3-0 loss in our tournament opener with Boylan, so it was great to see us come back to win our last two games with shutouts," said Broncos junior defender Josef Cidulka.
The Broncos last won the Classic in 2017 over Jacobs while for Marmion, this would be the first appearance in the final since 2008.
Cadets coach Jimmy Romano has taken the program from five wins in his first year (2017) to one win away from advancing into the Class 2A state tournament a year ago.
