Fire hydrant flushing to start Tuesday in Elk Grove Village
Elk Grove Village will begin fire hydrant flushing on Tuesday to clear the water of mineral sediment, facilitate system maintenance and ensure hydrants are in the highest state of readiness in the event of an emergency.
Street signs will be posted in the affected area when hydrants are flushed. Residents in those areas should check for possible water discoloration prior to use. If the water is discolored, it can usually be remedied by running a cold water tap for 5 to 10 minutes or until water clears.
Postponing laundry until water is clear, usually no more than one day, also is recommended.
