Galesburg man gets 75 years for woman's shooting death
GALESBURG, Ill. (AP) - A judge has sentenced a western Illinois man to 75 years in prison for shooting death of a woman outside a pub.
Thirty-year-old Jonathan Kelly of Galesburg learned his punishment Friday after being convicted in February of first-degree murder, a firearm enhancement and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
Twenty-six-year-old Jenni McGruder of Galesburg was shot in the head by a stray bullet after Kelly fired three rounds at a group of people outside a pub on April 1, 2018.
Mike McGruder, the woman's husband, said he was satisfied with the sentence that would leave Kelly a centenarian if he were to finish his prison term.
The Register-Mail reported Kelly didn't speak at the sentencing hearing. He was arrested in South Dakota nearly two months after the shooting.
