Palatine shop hosts bike drive Saturday

Mikes Bike Shop in Palatine is among seven suburban locations that will be accepting gently used, working, unwanted bikes Saturday as part of the Pedal Power bike drive.

Bikes collected through the event are given to Chicago Public School children as a reward for making the honor roll. For many of those kids, this is the first bike they have ever owned. More than 2,200 bicycles have been collected since the drive was started nine years ago by an 8-year-old Wilmette girl.

The bike drive takes place from 9 a.m. - noon Saturday, at Mikes, 155 N. Northwest Highway.
