Baseball: Snep powers Lake Zurich past Zion-Benton

Tyler Snep's big day carried Lake Zurich's baseball team to an 11-7 win over Zion-Benton in North Suburban Conference action Thursday.

The sophomore Snep had 2 homers and 8 RBI, finishing 3-for-3. Autin Matuszewski was 2-for-3 with a triple, double, walk, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored.

Grant 13, Lakes 1: Jimmy Friel went 3-for-4 with a homer, double and 3 RBI for the Bulldogs in the Northern Lake County game.

Grant (11-6,7-1) also got a double and 2 RBI from Jack Gorden (1-for-1), while Jacob Splitt went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Nick Malmberg (1-1) earned the win, allowing 1 earned run in 4 innings with 6 strikeouts. Aidan Earl threw 2 shutout innings in relief, striking out three.

Antioch 4, Wauconda 2: Sonny Mentone allowed 1 earned run in 5 innings, and the Sequoits scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control of the Northern Lake County game.

Nicholas Sheren pitched 2 innings for the save. Connor Geidner went 2-for-4 for Antioch, and Ben Gutke had a triple and an RBI.

Jacob Bicknase and Mike Turzynski each had a single and an RBI for Wauconda.

Vernon Hills 6, Deerfield 0: Danny Wizceb made the most of his second varsity start in the Central Suburban game.

Wizceb threw 6 innings, allowing no runs on 3 hits while walking two and striking out four. Joe Rangel pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing 2 hits while striking out two.

Drew Winegardner (2-for-2, double, run, RBI, walk, Brennan Reback (2-for-3, double, run, RBI) and Sam Brandl (2-for-3, run) led the way offensively with 2 hits apiece. Kyle Fasbinder contributed a solo home run.
