Lying through their teeth and proud of it
When the Webster Dictionary is revised, it will contain a new definition of hypocrisy: "lying through your teeth and proud of it."
Let me provide two examples.
First, the recently released text messages by Mark Meadows, former chief of staff to Donald Trump, indicates that members of the right-wing media, especially the Fox News Channel, were pleading with Meadows to have the former president go on TV and implore the rioters to go home. "He's got to condemn this (expletive) ASAP," said one of many tweets by his son Don Jr.
"Mark, the president needs to tell the people in the Capital to go home. This is hurting all of us. He is destroying his legacy," Laura Ingraham said.
Yet, on the network shows they were blaming Antifa, Black Lives Matter and other groups.
An unnamed congressman tweeted, "We tried everything we could to overturn the election ... I am sorry nothing worked."
It is chilling to realize that an elected congressman is apologizing for not overturning the election of a legitimately elected president of the United States.
The second example is a report by the nonpartisan Anna E. Casey Foundation, which noted that the 21 Republican-controlled states that are trying to restrict abortion rights are at the bottom half of all the states on economic and health care support for women and their children.
It is a charade that these legislatures promote a "culture of life" but do nothing for the mothers and their children.
Given all the challenges our country faces, it would be refreshing to be honest and truthful in our dealings with each other.
