Letter: Consider serving on local board or council

As one election season ends, another begins.

As I announced in September, I will not be seeking a fourth term on the St. Charles City Council. That being said, I want to encourage others to pick up the mantle and consider running in any of their local elections.

Sure, it takes a dose of bravery to run for office. It may be a little daunting even, but in the end, win or lose, a very rewarding experience. I can't think of a better way to serve your community, love your community or get to know your community than running for office.

To those who've already thrown their hat in the ring, incumbents and hopefuls alike: thank you.

Don't be discouraged by my reaching out for more, I can assure you, having an opponent or two will make you a better candidate and ultimately a better office holder.

Dec. 19 is the petition deadline, so there's still plenty of time to consider a bid for office. I'm more than happy to offer any advice or encouragement that I can.

Think about it ...
