Messiah Lutheran Church of Elgin closes its doors after 50 years

Messiah Lutheran Church of Elgin held its final worship on April 10, 2016.

Located at 500 Church Road, it has served the Elgin/Dundee area for 50 years.

It began as an American Lutheran Church Mission in Dundee Township and in 1988 it became a part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America following the merger of the American Lutheran Church, Lutheran Church in America and Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches.

The church and property was purchased by St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox as part of their future plans.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit ELCA programs and many of the area nonprofits which the church has supported through its lifetime.

Thank you to our members, past and present for a wonderful spirit filled, mission driven 50 years.

We will miss being a part of the Elgin/Dundee community!
