Softball: Adams takes command for Mundelein
Breanna Adams tossed a 2-hitter with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts to help Mundelein's softball team past visiting Stevenson 10-0 in 5 innings on Monday in North Suburban Conference play.
Adams was also a key on the offensive end, finished 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Molly Podraza (double) and Kira Buckner also had 2 hits for Mundelein (9-9 overall).
Maggie Trotter and Mara Lippman had the hits, both singles, for Stevenson.
Grant 17 ,Wauconda 2 (5 inn.): The visitors were no match on this day as Grant pounded out 11 hits, including a homer by Ivy Clark and 2 doubles from Megan Mitchell, in Northern Lake County Conference play.
Calista Warmowski had a pair of hits and drove in 3 runs, and Liz Schram and Madeline Quinn both doubled and drove in 3 runs.
Kayla Serio had a double for the only extra-base hit for Wauconda (4-13).
Megan Chapman earned the win after allowing 6 hits but no earned runs over 5 innings as Grant improved to 16-5 overall and 5-1 in the NLCC.
Grayslake North 15, Richmond-Burton 3: Emily Mack pitched the visiting Knights to a nonconference win, coming up with a second straight dominant start with 4 hits and 6 strikeouts in a complete game.
Grace Brown homered, drew 2 walks and was hit by pitches twice to finished with 4 RBI. Other big hitters included Faith Standerski (2 RBI), Alyssa Carr (4 RBI) and Caitlin Barenbaum (1 RBI), each of whom doubled.
Freshman Meghan Delahunty went 3-for-3 with 4 runs scored and 3 walks, and Standerski, Delahunty, Jess Pozezinski, and Ashton Moore all had multiple hits for Grayslake North (8-7).
Warren 9, Lake Forest 0: Caitlyn Britton was in fine form along with her teammates as Warren improved to 17-1 with a victory over the visiting Scouts in NSC action.
Britton allowed only a first-inning single and a pair of walks in earning a complete-game shutout. She also hit a 2-run homer as part of a 6-run sixth inning for the Blue Devils, who improved to 8-0 in conference play.
Warren's Kayla Hopkins finished 3-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI, and Claire Swedberg went 3-for-5 with a double out of the leadoff spot.
Lake Zurich 11, Zion-Benton 0 (6 inn.): Stephanie Keefe struck out 10 and allowed the host Zee-Bees 3 hits - and she also homered as the Bears rolled in NSC play.
Elizabeth Chialdikas and Keefe both finished 3-for-4 at the plate, and Maura Ginn (3 RBI) and Abby Jokerst (double, 2 RBI) added to a productive day for Lake Zurich (10-9, 6-3).
Grayslake Central 10, Glenbrook South 2: Grace Bradley homered twice, finishing 3-for-4 with 4 RBI to lead a powerful display by the Rams in nonconference play.
Elisa Koshy (3 RBI) and Morgan Smigielski also had home runs for Grayslake Central (13-9).
Bradley was strong in the circle as well, allowing 8 singles, 1 walk and no earned runs in a complete-game triumph.
Niles West 11, Vernon Hills 8 (8 inn.): The visiting Wolves plated 3 runs in the top of the eighth inning to claim victory in Central Suburban North play.
Vernon Hills (8-9, 5-2) had plenty of productive at-bats, as Delaney Bowen finished 2-for-4 with a homer and 2 RBI, Brooke Pieper had a pair of doubles, Quin Yuter was 3-for-4 with a double, Nicole Pieper doubled and drove in 2 runs, and Rachel Wright had 2 RBI.
Libertyville 15, Waukegan 0: Maggie Evers went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, a home run and 4 RBI to lead Libertyville to the shutout win.
Julia Zinkewich also went 3-for-3 and Sarah Hoyer added 2 hits, including a home run. She also drove in 2 runs.
Winning pitcher Katie Jahncke moved to 4-0 on the season with 5 strikeouts and just 1 walk in five innings.
Libertyville improves to 14-5 on the season and 6-2 in the North Suburban Conference.
Carmel, 3, Benet 1: Isabella Anichini had an in-the-park home run to lead Carmel to the East Suburban Catholic Conference win.
