Meet Current and Aspiring Community Leaders, Local Officials and Volunteers

BARRINGTON, IL (March 2016) - Area residents interested in becoming more involved in the community are encouraged to register for the upcoming Barrington Area Leadership Academy to be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington.

The one day seminar event, hosted by the Barrington Area Development Council (BADC), pairs together accomplished leaders from renowned community organizations with newer members of groups from the Greater Barrington Area - generally described as the footprint of the School District 220 boundaries.

Heads of community groups throughout the area have been extended an invitation to name candidates from their boards or staff to attend and learn of the wealth of experience and talent that will surround them - among both their fellow attendees and the roster of speakers.

The seminar's agenda features a morning session with briefings from leaders of such pillar groups as the Barrington Area Council of Governments, School District 220, Township Governments, Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce, Barrington Park District and Barrington Public Library. Participants also sign up for breakout sessions titled Being on a Board/Running a meeting, Strategic Planning, Recruiting and Leading Volunteers, Getting your Message Out, and Financial Formalities for Non-Profits. An afternoon session features a panel of experts hosting a lively interactive discussion on how to grow and sustain your organization.

BADC President Jack Schaefer described the program as "especially appropriate for newly elected and appointed officials of Village/Township governments or anyone volunteering with a Service Organization or Not-for-Profit group who is looking to collaborate with the many established entities in the Barrington Area". Attendees from prior years are invited to return to update their knowledge and skills.

Register by April 16, 2016 to guarantee a seat.
