Softball: Serio helps Wauconda to win No. 20

Freshman Kayla Serio doubled twice and earned the win in the circle, and Wauconda's softball team notched its 20th win of the season by beating Lake Zurich 11-1 in a North Suburban Conference crossover on Friday.

Serio (3 RBI) and Kelly Weller (2 runs) were both 3-for-4 for Wauconda (20-6). The Bulldogs got 2 hits apiece from Kayla Wedl (double, RBI), Taylor McCarthy and Alex Steffens (RBI). Serio (7-2) pitched a five-inning complete game, allowing 5 hits and 1 walk and striking out three.

Julia Zaucha had a double for Lake Zurich.

Stevenson 15, Evanston 4: The visiting Patriots erupted for 19 hits, including a home run by Trisha Porzycki, in five innings to win the nonconference game going away.

Vera Pflugradt (2 doubles, triple, 4 RBI), Mic Faunce (triple, 2 RBI) and Alyssa Pauly (double) each had 3 hits for Stevenson (10-12). The Patriots received 2 hits apiece from Porzycki (2 RBI), Emma Oriatti (triple), Hannah Epstein and Alana Labaschin (3 RBI).

Vernon Hills 12, Johnsburg 4: The Cougars received 2 hits apiece from Sami Saliba (double, 2 RBI, 3 runs), Danielle Comitor (triple, 3 RBI) and Rose Ferolo (RBI) in the nonconference game.

Delaney Bowen had a double for Vernon Hills, and winning-pitcher Mackenzie Mahler allowed just 1 earned run over 7 innings.

Hampshire 7, Grayslake North 2: Grace Brown was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI for the Knights in their Fox Valley Conference loss.

Carissa Popp also finished 2-3 with an RBI for Grayslake North. Jenna Pozezinski, Angelica Diaz, Kylie Conrad and Dani Runyon also all had hits.

Sherry Wagner/WSRA games: Warren's softball team will hold its third annual Sherry Wagner/WSRA Games on Saturday.

The Blue Devils host Prairie Ridge, with the freshmen playing at 9 a.m., JV at 11 a.m. and varsity at 1 p.m. At 12:30 p.m., there will be a balloon launching.

All proceeds and donations raised will go to the Warren Special Recreation Association. The games will be played in honor of Sherry Wagner, whose daughter Jana pitched three varsity seasons for Warren. Sherry passed away during Jana's senior year in September of 2013.
