Aurora Central High to host benefit bags tournament Aug. 16

Aurora Central Catholic High School will hold a 15th annual bags tournament Sunday, Aug. 16, to benefit the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.

It will be from noon to 2 p.m. at the school, 1255 N. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora. The public is invited. Admission is free. Donations will be accepted.

The tournament, in memory of late student-athlete Andrew “Dre” Heimann, will include nine bags teams, down from 34 teams last year due to COVID-19.

The 15-year-old Aurora Central Catholic High School student passed away in the summer of 2003, after a six-year battle with leukemia. Dre was on the golf and basketball teams. He was also a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Montgomery.

Puff Pizza food truck will supply refreshments and donate to the event.

Aurora Central Catholic High School families and friends are invited to attend and donate any amount.

Donors can send checks to Aurora Central Catholic High School, 1255 N. Edgelawn Drive, Aurora, IL 60506.

Any amount is appreciated. Please make the check payable to the National Honor Society; they deposit all checks and then send one large one from their account.

Help honor Dre's memory by helping to fight the disease that took his life. His family wishes to honor him by helping to save others.
