Northern Indiana student wins Poetry Out Loud competition

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A northern Indiana high school student has won a ticket to the nation's capital to compete in a national poetry reading competition.

Grace Milligan of Monticello earned that trip last weekend by outshining 18 other students to become the champion of Indiana's Poetry Out Loud State Finals.

The student at Twin Lakes High School receives a $200 cash prize and an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete in the May 1-2 Poetry Out Loud National Finals. Milligan's school also gets $500 to purchase poetry books.

The national champion of May's national finals wins a $20,000 college scholarship.
