West Ham begins Olympic era with Europa League win
LONDON (AP) - West Ham kicked off a new era with a comfortable 3-0 win over Slovenia's NK Domzale in its first match at the Olympic Stadium on Thursday, securing a place in the Europa League playoffs.
The Hammers overturned a first leg 2-1 deficit in the third qualifying round contest, with Senegalese midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate notching two first-half goals and new signing Sofiane Feghouli adding a late third.
The team's new home, now known as the London Stadium, drew a sellout crowd of 54,000 - nearly 20,000 more than the capacity of its former ground at Upton Park.
West Ham has traded its home of 112 years for a modern stadium, which hosted track and field events at the 2012 London Games, in an attempt to become a Premier League force.
