Fire Saturday damages building under renovation in Palatine
A fire early Saturday caused extensive damage to the exterior of a building at 615 E. Dundee Road, Palatine, in the Deer Grove Center shopping mall, fire officials said.
The fire was first reported in a Dumpster at the center at 12:43 a.m., but responding police reported that it had spread to the building, which was undergoing renovation. Fires in a large construction Dumpster and the building were under control by 12:58, Palatine fire officials said. No injuries were reported.
The fire did not extend to the interior of the building. No damage estimate was available.
Fire investigators are working with police to determine the cause of the fire.
