Seymour woman gets 4 years in boyfriend's stabbing death

URBANA, Ill. (AP) - A central Illinois woman was given the minimum four-year prison term after pleading guilty to fatally stabbing her boyfriend.

The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports 27-year-old Sarah Kijanowski entered the plea Tuesday to second-degree murder in the January 2016 death of Chase Yets in Seymour. She will have to serve at least half of her sentence and will receive credit for time served. That means she could be released from prison in four months. Kijanowski could have been sentenced to up to 20 years.

Yets' mother, Melisa Yets, said "for the rest of our lives, we will feel like justice has not been served."

Prosecutors have said the couple was arguing and Yets pushed Kijanowski before she stabbed him once in the chest.

The newspaper reports Kijanowski's parental rights to her three children have been terminated.
