Northwestern Mutual-Chicago tees up for childhood cancer research
With the generous support of more than 100 golfers and event sponsors, Northwestern Mutual-Chicago raised close to $70,000 for childhood cancer research. The annual golf outing, held at River Forest Country Club in Elmhurst, has become a primary fundraiser in the firm's philanthropic initiative to fight childhood cancer.
"Too many families have been devastated by childhood cancer," said Corey D. McQuade, Managing Partner. "The outing was created to help raise funds for our nonprofit partner, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation and spread awareness of the need for childhood cancer research," he added.
Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children younger than 19 in the U.S., yet childhood cancer research and services are vastly and consistently underfunded. Northwestern Mutual launched its Childhood Cancer Program in 2012 to accelerate the search for cures to childhood cancer and to provide much-needed support to families battling the disease.
Northwestern Mutual-Chicago has raised more than $225,000 for Alex's Lemonade Stand by hosting lemonade stands in the community, participating in races, attending special events and engaging its staff and representatives in fun office fundraising events. Every $50 raised funds one hour of research.
"We are inspired by the generosity of our associates, clients and sponsors," said Tessa Budmayr, Strategic Growth Consultant, who leads the firm's philanthropic program. "Through their support, we are making a difference in our fight against childhood cancer."
Sponsors for the 2016 golf outing included Kemper Lesnick, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche AM Distributors and Russell Investments. To view photos of the event, click here.
To date, Northwestern Mutual and its network have raised more than $12 million for the cause and helped to fund more than 130,000 hours of research to help discover lifesaving treatments for children affected by the disease.
