Softball: Feldkamp pitches, hits Maine West to win

Winning Maine West pitcher Grace Feldkamp threw all seven innings while defeating Schaumburg 12-8 in Game 2 of a doubleheader on Saturday in Des Plaines.

On offense, she helped account for nearly half of her team's runs, belting a grand slam and a solo homer for 5 RBI while going 3-for-3 at the plate and scoring 4 runs.

Schaumburg (10-12) won the opener 6-3 behind sophomore Stephanie Schroeder's 6-hitter and 5 strikeouts.

In the night cap, the Warriors had four other multiple hitters in addition to Feldkamp - Allison Pearson (2-for-4, 2 runs), Gabriella Demma (2-for-4, RBI), Amanda Byrne (2-for-4, double, 3 RBI) and Allison Eby (2-for-3, RBI).

Feldkamp's grand slam gave the Warriors an 11-8 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. The senior also struck out four in earning the complete game win.

Natalie Napier (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs), pitcher Taylor Budrovic (2-for-4, RBI) and Jayme Kissamis (3-for-4 , 1 run) led the offense for Schaumburg.

In the first game, Saxons senior centerfielder Kaiden Jackson belted a home run while going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and 3 runs.

Other multiple hitters for the Saxons were Micaela Encarnacion (2-for-4, 1 run) and Michelle Birkholz (2-for-4, RBI).

Stephanie Schroeder (3-2) earned the win by tossing a 6-hitter with 5 strikeouts.

Feldkamp (2-for-40 also had a homer in Game 1 along with a double. Pearson, Demma, Anne Lipinski and Bridget Christiansen had the other hits for Maine West (12-13).

Barrington wins two: Barrington improved to 29-2 by winning its final two games of the inaugural Greg Easter ICA tournament at its own Fields of Dreams in Barrington.

The Fillies blanked Marengo 3-0 and Bloom Township 11-0 (five innings) to go to 3-1 in the unique tourney that included four teams from all four IHSA classes.

Junior Catherine McMahon (18-1) recorded her sixth shutout (6 hits, 4 strikeouts, 2 walks) of the season against Marengo.

The Fillies scored all 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Purdue-bound Rachel Krzysko delivered her first of two game-winning RBI with a double. Haley Luczak (2-for-3) followed with an RBI double to make it 2-0 and Kendall Peterson's RBI single capped the scoring in the errorless game.

Tori Meyer (6-1) picked up the win against Bloomington, striking out 11 and allowing only 3 hits in the first four innings. Caroline Hoppe struck out the side in the fifth.

Krzysko's single that scored Carly Kordich in first inning was the only run the Fillies would need as they outhit Bloom 12-3.

Jenna Patino (3-for-3, 2 doubles, 3 RBI), Kordich (2-for-4, RBI), Krzysko (2-for 3, RBI), Abbey Jacobsen (2-for-3, double, RBI) and Peterson (double) led the offense.

Krzysko and Jacobsen were named to the all-tourney team.

Hersey 7, Evanston 2: Hersey sophomore Brianna Luciano went the first five innings, striking out 11 and allowing just 1 hit to raise her record to 12-4. She also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double.

Freshman Ria Patel threw the final two innings, striking out one and giving up 1 hit. She also had her first varsity hit in the sixth inning with an infield single.

Katie Wingerter (2-for-4) belted a single-season school record 17th home run and 41st of her career, also a school standard.

Other multiple hitters for the visiting Huskies (21-6) were Makayla Tsagalis (3-for-5), Jodie Hermann (2-for-4, double) and Sophia Cano (3-for-4).

Wheeling splits: Round Lake won the opener 11-1 in six innings and Wheeling took Game 2 by the same score and same amount of innings.

In the opener, sophomore Nikki Ferraro went 2-for-3 for the Wildcats who also received this from Becky McAtee (double), Peyton LaCaeyse, Sophia Stanke (double) and Dakota Medrano (double, RBI). who also struck out eight on the mound.

Wheeling freshman Emmie LaCaeyse threw a 1-hitter with 4 strikeouts in Game 2. The Wildcats (3-21) were led on offense by Kaitlyn Schuetz, who went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Ferraro, McAtee, Emmie LaCaeyse (2 RBI), Veronica Petzold (3 RB) and Peyton LaCaeyse (triple) each had 1 hit.

Prospect splits: Prospect (11-13) won the opener over Grayslake Central 3-1 and fell 14-12 in the night cap.

In Game 1, Alyssa Cacini (2-for-3) belted a homer for host Prospect and teammate Jackie Orel had a double.

Madeline Borkowski picked up the win, throwing a 5-hitter.

Prospect scored 7 runs in the second inning of Game 2. The Knights' inning was sparked Cassie Cunniff's single, a double by Alex Kanter, a single by Cacini and a single by Orel. Colleen Palczynski, Cacini, Caldrone and Kanter each collected multiple hits.

St. Viator falls twice: Marist swept an East Suburban Catholic Conference doubleheader in Chicago 11-1 (6 innings) and 13-0 (5 innings) over the Lions (12-13). Lions junior Haley Robinson had 3 hits for the day.
