Softball: Hall's walk off HR propels St. Charles East

Jordan Hall blasted a 2-run home run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday to lift the St. Charles East softball team to a 9-7 nonconference win over Wheaton North in the first game of a doubleheader in St. Charles.

The Saints (4-0) completed the sweep with a 17-0 win in five innings in Game 2.

Hall's game-winning blast in the opener came after a leadoff single from Jordan Hieber, her second hit of the game.

Katie Kolb (2 hits), Maddie Candre (2B), Paige Ligocki (2 RBI) and Megan Daly (HR, 3 RBI) also contributed to SCE's 11-hit attack. Delaney Devor got the win in the circle, pitching the final 1⅓ innings in relief of Hall and allowing no hits.

In the nightcap, the Saints pounded out 16 more hits, led by Kelly Rinker (2 hits), Kolb (3 hits, 2B, RBI), Rylee Stout (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Hieber (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Devor (2 hits, HR, 4 RBI), Hall (2 hits, HR, 2 RBI) and Sara Campagna (3 hits, 2 doubles, 2 RBI). Devor got the complete-game win allowing 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and no walks.

Kaneland 10, Brookville (SC) 0: On Day 2 of the Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Aly Jesionowski went 3-for-3 with a double to lead the Knights (3-2) to their second straight win. Meg Cohrs (2B, 2 RBI) and Hailey Roach (2B, 2 RBI) also came up with big hits for Kaneland. Jesionowski allowed just 1 hit with 8 strikeouts and no walks to earn the win in the five-inning game.

St. Charles North 4, Plainfield Central 2: Amanda James belted a grand slam home run in the fifth inning to lift the North Stars to a win in their season opener. Jillian Waslawski picked up the win in the circle, allowing 7 hits with 1 strikeout and no walks in a complete-game effort.

DeKalb 15, South Elgin 4: Mariah Spivey had a double and 2 RBI for South Elgin (2-5) in this nonconference loss. Bailey McClure and Stacy Bellack also drove in runs for the Storm. Geneva Pollman was the losing pitcher.

Oswego 12, Rosary 0: Danyal VanGundy had 2 hits for Rosary (1-6) in nonconference action.

Riverdale (TN) 8, Dundee-Crown 1: In their first game in Murfreesboro, Tenn., the Chargers (2-2) got 2 hits each from Andrea Conway, Hannah Gestrich (both doubles) and losing pitcher Sydney Ruggles, who also had an RBI.
